POLICE arrested four people, two women and two men, after officers allegedly found more than half a million dollars worth of drugs in a home on Wednesday night.

The two men are 74 and 41 while the two women who were taken into custody are 71 and 46.

The 41-year-old male suspect was arrested at 1am Thursday, after he turned himself in to police. The other three suspects were arrested at the home on Wednesday night, police said.

According to police reports, shortly after 7pm Wednesday, a team of officers from the Drug Enforcement Unit (DEU), acting on intelligence, executed a search warrant at a home at Hill View Drive in Winton Meadows Estates. Once there, police allegedly found 25 crocus sacks containing a large amount of marijuana.

The drugs weigh approximately 581 pounds and have a street value of $581,000.

Officer-in-charge of the DEU, Superintendent Samuel Butler said police believe more people were involved in this crime.

“We are still seeking out more persons in connection with the seizure. We are still very early in the investigations but we have seized 25 bags of suspected marijuana,” Supt Butler said.

“We want the public to know the DEU will continue to serve The Bahamas in a very forceful way. Wherever the intelligence leads, we will be there and we will make an arrest. We also want to thank the public for assisting us in our operations and providing intelligence to the DEU.”

In a separate incident, DEU officers also arrested a 25-year-old man of Carew Street on Thursday after police allegedly discovered marijuana hidden in several juice boxes he was carrying at the Lynden Pindling International Airport.

According to a police report, shortly after 3pm, DEU officers went to LPIA’s Domestic Section, where they conducted a search of several cases of juice being carried by the suspect who was travelling to Bimini.

During the search of the boxes, the officers found a quantity of marijuana. The suspect was taken into custody.

Investigations into both of these incidents continue.
