BAHAMASAIR took possession of the first of five brand new aircraft on November 27 in Toulouse, France.
The ATR 72-600, a 70-seater was received by Bahamasair Chairman Valentine Grimes. He was accompanied by Captain Augustine Roberts, director of flight operations and Prince Storr, senior manager for maintenance and engineering.
The aircraft will be flown to the Bahamas by Captain Shannon Galanis, accompanied by First Officer Cameron Pratt in addition to an ATR training pilot.
They are scheduled to arrive in Nassau today at 12.55pm, where the aircraft will be commissioned for service.
It is anticipated that the aircraft will be cleared for its inaugural flight service on December 10. The acquisition of the new ATR 72-600 will provide Bahamasair more lift capacity for its robust Marsh Harbour/Palm Beach and Freeport/Fort Lauderdale routes, as well as provide much needed support for our other high density international and domestic routes.

Won't do anything to help the $20m+ per year in losses since these planes the same size as the Dash 8 and didn't bahamasair management say years ago they was too big for the domestic market because of competition?.. anyway, it looks good and hopefully will provide more reliable service for a while.. too bad we the taxpayers have to pay for it .. Any comment from Mr. Butler who always seems to be the go-to man for airline comments....
