Margaritaville Bahamas’ operators yesterday suggested it would help lure more cruise passengers off the ship and increase spending yields, describing its launch - and the creation of 160 jobs - as a “no brainer”.

“The Bahamas fits very well with the brand and it’s really a no-brainer to have a Margaritaville her,” said Lindsay Mulock, marketing manager for the Jimmy Buffett-inspired restaurant.

She told Tribune Business that Margaritaville, situated at the Paradise Island ferry terminal, is set for a soft opening to locals and tourists next week, and has already generated significant interest from visitors.

“There are a lot of people that come on the cruise ships that wouldn’t necessarily get off and venture out, but would if they know there is a Margaritaville,” Ms Mulock told Tribune Business.

“We have gotten a ton of great feedback from tourists that are excited that we are open. It’s a highlight in a lot of cruise ports. A lot of people are very excited about us being open.

“It’s going to bring them off the ship and over to Paradise Island, whereas a lot of people don’t usually come out of the general port area.”

Margaritaville is a global brand inspired by the lyrics and lifestyle of American singer and songwriter, Jimmy Buffett. It features consumer products, restaurants, retail shops, hotels and resorts.

“It is all about the lifestyle with the Margaritaville brand,” Ms Mulock said. “People can come, have drinks, unwind and really enjoy themselves.

“It’s really all about escapism. You’re not just coming and grabbing a meal; it’s about enjoying the whole ambiance. We do have the retail store where the Jimmy Buffet merchandise will be sold.”

Ms  Mulock said 180 persons were undergoing training this week, with 160 expected to be hired full-time. “We’re 99.9 per cent complete with our construction and we’re just fine tuning everything,” she added.

Margaritaville will feature a signature 40-seat boat drinks bar, a port side open air chill bar with a drinks-to-go window, and a Margaritaville retail store.
