Charges dismissed against Scrooge Brown

CHARGES against an inner-city community activist accused of being the aggressor in an altercation with police were dismissed by a magistrate yesterday.

It ended a nine-month saga involving 10 hearings into an alleged incident concerning Valentino “Scrooge” Brown.

Brown, of Lewis Street, had first appeared in Magistrates Court in March facing four charges: disorderly behaviour, obscene language, assaulting a police officer and resisting arrest. He pleaded not guilty to the charges.

It was claimed that the Market Street community leader acted in disorderly fashion and cursed police when they appeared at his home earlier this year. It was also claimed that Brown resisted and assaulted a policeman while the officer moved to arrest him.
