WATER and Sewerage Corporation (WSC) officials said repairs were completed on its failed water transmission main at Roberta Avenue in the early hours of Friday and supply immediately restored in most areas of New Providence.

However, officials in a press release said technicians encountered major difficulties to do with the original installation that caused significant delays to finishing the needed repairs.

The repairs were completed in two parts, one at 1am and another at around 3am.

Any customer who is still experiencing low pressure and/or no water or any water quality challenge is urged to contact the WSC Call Centre at 302-5599 or email help@wsc.com.bs.

On Thursday the Corporation experienced a major failure of its water transmission main that caused either low pressure or no water supply for residents of Northern, Central, Southern and Eastern New Providence.

The corporation statement on Friday read: “The Water and Sewerage Corporation (WSC) wishes to notify our valued customers and the general public that repairs on our failed water transmission main on Roberta Avenue (Ridgeland Park West) were completed early this morning in two parts, one at approximately 1am and the other at approximately 3am. Restoration of our water transmission and distribution systems commenced immediately thereafter with full restoration expected in most areas for the morning peak period.

“Major difficulties having to do with original installation (circa 1992) were encountered that resulted in significant delays to completion of repairs. These challenges will have to be addressed on a more permanent basis at a later date.

“We have enjoyed a significant reduction in major supply interruption events over the past few years and we sincerely apologise to our valued customers and the residents, businesses, pedestrians and motorists in the area for the inconvenience caused.”

WSC technicians are expected to be in the area continuing to fine tune the temporary repairs and stressed that they are dedicated to permanently resolving this issue in the shortest possible time.
