POLICE are investigating three traffic related deaths that occurred during the holiday weekend.
The Royal Bahamas Police Force reported that two men died after the car they were in crashed into a utility pole on JFK Drive on Sunday morning.
According to reports, police were called to the scene of a traffic collision south of West Ridge shortly after 12.30am on December 27. Upon their arrival, officers discovered that a black Honda Accord had crashed into a utility pole. On examining the vehicle, police found the lifeless bodies of two males inside who were pronounced dead at the scene.
Police have not released the victims’ identities, but The Tribune understands they are Marcian Bullard and Kirkwood Rolle, both former students of Aquinas College.
Loved ones wrote tributes to the two men on Facebook, with many saying the young friends died too soon.
“Even the sensible young men with bright futures are getting taken away from us,” one person wrote. “Life is no joke. Rest on brothers.”
Police are also investigating a Christmas Day traffic accident in downtown Nassau that left a man dead.
Shortly after 6pm on Friday, an accident involving a bucket truck and a Ford tractor on Shirley Street near East Street resulted in a man on the bucket truck being seriously injured, police said.
The man died in hospital.
He has been identified as a retiree from the Bahamas Electricity Corporation (BEC) who was working for a subcontractor. He was working on lighting for the Boxing Day Junkanoo Parade when he was hit.
BEC released a statement mourning the loss, saying the victim, 62, had retired from BEC in 2013 after spending more than 30 years with the corporation.
“The entire BEC family is saddened by this loss especially as the victim is a retiree and his son is presently employed by the Bahamas Electricity Corporation. Our prayers and thoughts are with the victim’s loved ones during this extremely difficult time,” BEC said.
The corporation did not release his identity.
The deaths came after two people - a 43-year-old man and a 27-year-old woman – were killed and two others left in hospital after they were involved in a traffic accident in Abaco early on Christmas Eve.
According to police reports, shortly after midnight on Thursday a serious accident occurred on Don McKay Boulevard involving a black 2003 Mercedes Benz with a driver and a white Honda Civic with five passengers.
Both vehicles were extensively damaged.
Emergency Medical Services were called to the scene and took the victims to the local clinic.
Four of the passengers in the Honda Civic were seriously injured and two were later pronounced dead at the Marsh Harbour Clinic.
Two other passengers were airlifted to New Providence for further medical attention and are listed in critical condition.
Police investigations continue.
