THE St Augustine’s College Big Red Machine plowed through the competition en route to an undefeated season and the BAISS senior girls’ basketball title.
SAC secured a two-game sweep over the Prince William Falcons with a series clinching 24-5 win yesterday at the Kendal Isaacs Gymnasium.
Dawn Dean led the Big Red Machine with 10 points while two-sport star Serena Brown finished with nine.
SAC head coach Marco Mullings said his team’s experience and chemistry in the end were the determining factors in the matchup against the Falcons.
“This is a very experienced team, a lot of these girls have developed a chemistry together after playing with each other for 2-3 years so they have an idea of what to expect, where to be in certain spots and it all helps in creating that advantage on the floor,” he said. “They know how to play together. This year we had some challenges but obviously I would have to say it was a very successful season.”
Half of Mullings’ roster returns for the 2015-16 season as they will look to successfully defend their title. “We had 10 players, five seniors are leaving but we also have five players returning so that should give us a good core headed into next season as we look to get back to this point again,” he said. “These girls know how to win so the expectation is there, they just need to come out, be competitive and we will take it from there.”
