POLICE seized two illegal firearms, quantities of dangerous drugs and arrested 29 people for a number of offences, including armed robbery and theft of vehicles as they intensified their anti-crime operation across New Providence at the weekend.
During the operation, under the command of Chief Superintendent Theophilus Cunningham, two significant firearm arrests were made.
Around 9pm on Saturday officers arrested an adult male in Fox Hill after finding a handgun and 11 rounds of ammunition in his possession.
Shortly before 2am yesterday a team of officers, acting on intelligence, went to Arawak Cay, where they saw a 25-year-old man acting suspiciously in a nightclub. The officers approached the suspect who attempted to pull a handgun from his waist.
The officers, in fear of their lives, shot the suspect in his left side and took a handgun with six live rounds of ammunition from him. The officers also recovered 16 small packages of marijuana from the suspect, who is on bail for an indictable offence and was wearing a court-issued electronic monitoring device.
He was taken to hospital, where he is detained under heavy police guard.
