Six arrested by police for human trafficking

POLICE arrested six people, including four Venezuelans, on Sunday night on suspicion of trafficking in persons and prostitution.

The police anti-crime operation team, acting on intelligence, went at 7pm to a small resort on West Bay Street, where they found a Bahamian man and five foreigners, four Venezuelan women and one Colombia woman, whom they suspected to be in the country for prostitution.  

The men and women were taken into custody for breach of the Immigration Act and questioned about trafficking in persons. Investigations continue.

• A woman is recovering in hospital after she was allegedly shot by her boyfriend during an argument early yesterday morning.

According to reports, shortly after 1am a woman was involved in an argument with the suspect, which resulted in him shooting her in her left leg with a handgun.

The victim was rushed to hospital, where she is listed in stable condition.

Police arrested the 25-year-old suspect a short time later. Investigations continue.
