WHILE the senior boys’ teams, minus the Grand Bahama teams, competed in New Providence for the prestigious Hugh Campbell Basketball Classic title, the girls’ teams were in Grand Bahama participating in the Geneva Rutherford/HOYTES Basketball Tournament.
In the senior girls’ division, the CR Walker Knights routed the Eight Mile Rock Bluejays 49-5 to bring one of the two titles back to New Providence. The other came with the Kingsway Academy Saints, who prevailed with a 38-28 decision over Sunland Lutheran.
The Knights, coached by Tia Rolle, saw Chelly Australe pick up the most valuable player (MVP) award. Shavonya Adderley was their top scorer and Paultisha Clarke was the best passer.
The Saints, coached by the animated Randy Cunningham, was led by MVP Valicia Demeritte. Tanae Bowleg was the top scorer with 19 points.
CR Walker and Kingsway Academy recently won the GSSSA and BAISS senior and junior girls basketball titles respectively.
