Family of murdered policeman give thanks for support and prayers

By RICARDO WELLS

THE family of Sergeant 145 Wayne Rolle expressed their gratitude for all of the “support and prayers” received in recent months and called for unity between the public and police to resolve crime.

“His tragic death sent shock waves through our family, his colleagues, friends, and community,” the family said in a statement. “We wish to thank all persons who have shared with us during this time by way of calls, visits, flowers, and prayers. We request your continued prayers, especially for the children of the late sergeant.

“We all know and appreciate that in life, death is certain; however, we never expected our loved one to be a murder statistic.

“We cannot understand or make sense of this situation but we place our hands and trust in God’s hand to help get us through the days ahead.

“We. . .admonish the Bahamian public to renew its commitment to stamping out crime in every facet of our communities. Let us unite with the police force to accomplish a common goal; to create a safer and more secure Bahamas where all of us can work, live, and play.”

The family also thanked the Royal Bahamas Police Force for its “commitment and service” to the Bahamas and commended their efforts in the investigation.

Sgt Rolle was murdered as he sat in his vehicle with a female friend while off duty on December 4. The incident took place at about 7pm on Durham Street off Montrose Avenue.

To date, authorities have charged two men with the murder.
