GRAND Bahama recorded its second murder for the year when a young man was gunned down in the Bass Lane area on Monday evening.
The victim’s identity has not been released, but he is reportedly Zhivago Anthony Thompson, known by the street name “Vago”. According to police reports, the shooting happened around 7:20pm at a residence in Bass Lane West.
Acting Assistant Superintendent of Police Advardo Dames reported that the male victim was standing in a yard when he was approached by a man dressed in dark clothing who shot him several times in his body, then fled on foot.
Police received a report of gunshots in the area and dispatched a team of officers to investigate.
When officers arrived at the scene, they discovered the lifeless body of a man on the ground with multiple gunshot wounds in his body. EMS personnel pronounced him dead at the scene.
Relatives of the victim gathered at the scene on learning of the shooting and a number of onlookers watched from a distance as police conducted their investigations well into the evening.
A motive for the shooting is not known at this time and police are appealing to persons who may have witnessed the shooting to come forward and assist them with their investigation.
ASP Dames said persons may call 911, 919, or 350-3106/7 or the nearest police station.
The first Grand Bahama murder for the year occurred on January 8 at the Coral Gardens Apartment Complex.
Kevin Harvey, 28, was stabbed to death during an argument with three men around 12:40pm at the rear of an apartment building on Peridot Lane.
He was taken to hospital and died on January 9 of his injuries.
Three men have been arrested and charged in the court with his murder.
