CHAMPIONSHIPS

THE Sports Unit of the Department of Eduction, Science and Technology, in conjunction with the Government Secondary Schools Sports Association, has announced that its basketball championships are set to be held at Kendal Isaacs Gymnasium January 30 to February 3.

The official opening ceremonies is scheduled for 8pm January 30. Game one of the best-of-three series in all divisions will get started at 4pm with the junior girls, the junior boys at 5pm, the senior girls at 6:30pm and the senior boys following the ceremonies.

TRACK

BAAA RELAYS

POSTPONED

THE Bahamas Association of Athletic Associations has confirmed that its National High School Relay has been postponed for this weekend at the original Thomas A Robinson Track and Field Stadium.

BAAA president Mike Sands said that as a result of the 2015 IAAF World Relays, the Local Organising Committee, in its preparation for this year’s event, will be hosting a ‘Test Event’ April 17-18 as was done last year.

CYCLING

START OF SEASON

THE New Providence Cycling Association has announced that the cycling season will get started over the weekend of February 7-8 in Grand Bahama as well as in New Providence with the Ride for Hope on February 8.

Following those events, the first Time Trial Road Race is set for February 21. On February 22, a road race is all set to start at 7am from Oasis Restuarant and ending at Goodman’s Bay. On February 28, a youth cycling programme will take place at 3pm in the cycling track in the Baillou Hills Sporting Complex.
