LEAGUE

THE top player in City Bowling League competition last night was Lee Davis of the Ten Back Strikers, who toppled the pins for an outstanding 251 high game and a huge 669 high three game set. 

Runner-up MVP was Charles ‘CQ’ Johnson of the Checkers Cafe with a 212 second high game accompanied by a 609 second high set. 

The ladies MVP of the evening was again Janice Hoyte of the Ten Back Strikers with a big 225 high game and a strong 554 three game set. Hoyte was followed by Kayla Nixon and Angie Smith who tied the second highset with 534 pins. The second high game of the night was another huge game of 223 from Tara Johnson, of the Commonwealth Electrical. 

Other scores of the evening were: BEC Shockers 3, TK Falcons 0; Chilly Willy Ice 2, Coca-Cola Avengers 1; Commonwealth Electrical 2, Carib Construction 1; Tenback Strikers 2, Bahamasair Flyers 1; Shining Stars 2, Checkers Cafe 1; Giga Tech 2, Telco Enterprises 1.

CHAMPIONSHIPS

THE Sports Unit of the Department of Eduction, Science and Technology, in conjunction with the Government Secondary Schools Sports Association, has announced that its basketball championships are set to be held at Kendal Isaacs Gymnasium January 30 to February 3.

FLAG FOOTBALL

PROS RETURN TO

BOIL FISH BOWL

AFTER defeating the V-8 Fusion Stingrays in Saturday’s playoff game, the Orry J Sands Pros will be returning to the Boil Fish Bowl for a record 11 years in a row.

The Pros are scheduled to face the CAFL pennant winners BaOilCo Jets in the championship game 1:30pm January 31 at the DW Davis playing field.

The Pros dominated the ground game with the league leading rusher Jamaal Colby scoring the go ahead touchdown with less than five minutes to play in Sunday’s game.

The game MVP was Jamaal Colby, who rushed for 86 yards and one touchdown.

The Jets advanced to the chmpionship with a 54-0 rout over the Kingdom Warriors.

CYCLING

START OF SEASON

THE New Providence Cycling Association has announced that the cycling season will get started over the weekend of February 7-8 in Grand Bahama as well as in New Providence with the Ride for Hope on February 8.

Following those events, the first Time Trial Road Race is set for February 21. On February 22, a road race is all set to start at 7am from Oasis Restuarant and ending at Goodman’s Bay. On February 28, a youth cycling programme will take place at 3pm in the cycling track in the Baillou Hills Sporting Complex.

TRACK

BAAA RELAYS

POSTPONED

THE Bahamas Association of Athletic Associations has confirmed that its National High School Relay has been postponed for this weekend at the original Thomas A Robinson Track and Field Stadium.

BAAA president Mike Sands said that as a result of the 2015 IAAF World Relays, the Local Organising Committee, in its preparation for this year’s event, will be hosting a ‘Test Event’ April 17-18 as was done last year.
