LOCAL farmers and agricultural producers are invited to display and sell their goods at this year’s Grand Bahama Agribusiness Expo 2015 on March 27 and 28 at Goombay Park, Freeport.

Brenda Colebrooke, island administrator for West Grand Bahama, said all areas of agribusiness will be showcased at the expo.

“We are very excited about hosting this event given the renewed interest the government… is placing on agriculture in the Bahamas and cutting our dependency on imports,” she said.

Crop and livestock farmers, persons in food processing, marine resources, ornamental plants, handicraft, root crop, and other producer are invited to participate.

Ms Colebrooke said the Agribusiness Expo is important and underscores the government’s goals toward enhancing food security within the Bahamas.

She noted that the food shortage crisis following the hurricanes and other global events have heightened the need for food security.

Agriculture and Marine Resources Minister V Alfred Gray is expected to open the Expo. Children from a number of schools are also expected to attend.

Administrator Colebrooke said there will be informative and educational sessions and demonstrations during the two days. There will be presentations on organic farming, crop growing, back yard farming, and ornamental production. There also will be an adult culinary competition.
