HUTCHISON Port Holding, the owners of the Freeport Container Port, are helping the New Life Classic Dancers Junkanoo Group as the group prepares for the 2016 parade.

CEO Godfrey Smith made the donation last week to the group’s leader, Ken “Motorboat” Ferguson, at the Freeport Container Port.

“Keenly aware of culture being a key component to boost the positive development of communities and by extension nation building, we at Hutchison Port Holdings Business Units are pleased to have made a donation to the New Life Classic Dancers Junkanoo Group,” the company said in a press statement issue on Tuesday. The company said that Junkanoo is a Bahamian cultural festival that is ageless and enjoyed by residents and visitors alike from all walks of life.

HPH commended the Classic Dancers for years of great performances on Grand Bahama and its involvement in the development of young people. “Since 1984, the Classic Dancers Junkanoo Group has contributed much to the advancement of young people who are passionate about music, dance, the construction of costumes, entertainment and the arts generally. We remain impressed by how the involvement of Junkanoo inspires young people and adults to excel in their scholastic and professional pursuits. We wish to commend the Classic Dancers for ….creating an environment particularly for our youth that teaches and demands discipline and offers constructive and productive life lessons.

“It is our hope that this donation will prove helpful with the acquisition of added equipment and materials to maintain and improve the group’s high standards. Hutchison Port Holdings Business Units remain committed to those programmes and events that bode well for a progressive Bahamas. We wish leader Ken Ferguson and members of the New LifeClassic Dancers Junkanoo Group continued success.”

Now that's Public Relations for you. “Keenly aware of culture being a key component to boost the positive development of communities and by extension nation building, we at Hutchison Port Holdings Business Units are pleased to have made a donation to the New Life Classic Dancers Junkanoo Group,”

This company can buy and sell The Bahamas.

They are trying to get us to forget that they have the power to give Grand Bahama full employment and really help the community.

They just want to keep us "the natives" quiet. Man we are cheap too.
