THE BAHAMAS DEPARTMENT OF METEOROLOGY HAS ISSUED A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING FROM 3:30 PM EDT UNTIL 6:00 PM TUESDAY.
A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING IS IN EFFECT FOR ELEUTHERA, NEW PROVIDENCE, IN THE NW BAHAMAS AND MAYAGUANA, ACKLINS AND CROOKED ISLAND IN THE SE BAHAMAS AND THEIR ADJACENT WATERS AND CAYS.
OBSERVATIONS, LIGHTNING DETECTOR DATA AND SATELLITE IMAGERY SHOWED ORGANISED THUNDERSTORMS OVER THE AFOREMENTIONED ISLANDS.
SOME OF THESE THUNDERSTORMS WILL BE SEVERE AT TIMES CAUSING STRONG GUSTY WINDS, DANGEROUS LIGHTNING, HEAVY DOWNPOURS, HAIL AND POSSIBLE WATERSPOUT OR TORNADO ACTIVITY.
BOATERS IN THE WARNING AREAS SHOULD SEEK SAFE HARBOUR AND RESIDENTS IN THE WARNING AREAS SHOULD STAY INDOORS AND AWAY FROM WINDOWS WHEN CONDITIONS WORSEN. RESIDENTS SHOULD NOT SEEK SHELTER UNDER TREES OR IN WATER AS THESE CAN BECOME LIGHTNING CONDUCTORS.
