EIGHTY-NINE students will celebrate this weekend at the first Urban Renewal high school diploma graduation from Atlantic College.
Urban Renewal Commission and the Atlantic Interactive School of Learning - part of Atlantic College - have teamed up under the theme “The Pursuit of Destiny” for the 2014-2015 class graduation.
The students earned their General Educational Diploma (GED) for Urban Renewal and will come together with family and friends on Sunday at 4pm at Evangelistic Temple Auditorium, Collins Avenue, for the graduation ceremony.
Students enrolled in courses, including Mathematics, Language Arts, Biology, Entrepreneur Skills, Personal Development, Effective Oral Communication, Business Communication, Computer in Business and Civics through Socratic Seminars and workshops. They also took part in community service and trade shows for local communities.
Bahamian Icon award nominee and Director of the Programme, Dr Melony Thompson, said: “The programme offers hands-on project learning and focuses not only on student’s academics, but also their social life.” The Interactive School of Learning offers alternative to the traditional ways of learning, changing the way students learn in the classroom.”
Dr R E Cooper, president of Atlantic College and founder of Atlantic Interactive School of Learning, said: “Through this programme many inner city young people who did not get a high school diploma were able to enrol at Atlantic College through the Urban Renewal initiative.”
