WITH the 22nd annual All-Andros and Berry Islands Regatta next on the calendar for the Independence Holiday in Morgan’s Bluff, North Andros, legendary Sir Durward Knowles and colourful businessman Frank Hanna provided their financial assistance.
The presentations were made yesterday at the Crab House. Accepting the cheques, on behalf of regatta chairman Bernard Evans, was Danny Ferguson.
“We have come in memory of those who have fallen and those who are still here, to celebrate one of the greatest legacies and the traditions that we have in sloop sailing,” said Rev Dr Philip McPhee. “We have come to say thank you to a pioneer and one who has been blessed with a gift in terms of his support to the Bahamas and to the people of the Bahamas and sailing in general.”
On behalf of Knowles, the two-time Olympic sailing medallist, McPhee said he was delighted to make his cheque presentation to the committee. He noted that Knowles was instrumental in getting the regatta started and he continues to make his contribution to the growth of the event.
Also making a presentation was Frank Hanna of Frank Hanna Cleaning Company. The former chairman of the regatta said, over the years, he has continued to make his contribution and his presentation yesterday was just his initial commitment, but the organising committee knows that they can count on him to support the regatta until it is completed.
“I look forward to the regatta being another success because we always have some exciting competition and the people come out and support it every year,” Hanna said. “So once again we are looking forward to the event being very successful. This is Andros and it’s the Independence holiday so it should be a very good regatta to be involved in. We are looking for the people to show up.”
In response, Ferguson said the donations by both Knowles and Hanna will go a long way in making the regatta a success.

Wow that is great news, no how about covering the just recently finished Long Island Regatta at Salt Pond? Or did this wonderful newspaper just let this reporting of the Regatta go away? Get with the game plan and do some reporting on the only true Bahamian Sport we have which is Bahamian Sloop Sailing!!!!
