SIXTY young people enrolled in the Fresh Start Programme in Grand Bahama completed a 15-week training course and are now equipped with skills to enter the job market.
On Friday, 20 trainees received certificates in welding, 14 in computer and business application, nine in accounting and Quickbooks, nine in general maintenance, and eight completed an acrylic nails course.
A graduation ceremony was held for the participants at the Foster Pestaina Hall, where Minister of Youth, Sports and Culture Dr Daniel Johnson told persons that he was also given a second chance in life.
He commended participants for taking advantage of the opportunity for a second chance by enrolling in the Fresh Start Programme, which is aimed at providing persons with training in a number of areas.
Of the 200 persons who applied, 60 were selected to participate in this year’s programme.
Minister for Grand Bahama Dr Michael Darville said the programme is making a difference in the lives of young people.
He said the government is responsible for preparing the youth for the future with necessary skills and for implementing job creating programmes so that they can find gainful employment.
