ON June 28, the family of the Holy Spirit Anglican Church, Chippingham, as well as many others from across the diocese will gather to celebrate with Canon Peter AG Scott his 30th anniversary of ordination to the sacred priesthood.
Canon Scott, who has been the Rector of Holy Spirit since August 2010, was ordained on June 28, 1985, at Christ Church Cathedral by the late Diocesan Bishop Michael Hartley Eldon.
Since then, Canon Scott has served all over the Diocese and in several capacities, beginning at St Barnabas in New Providence, then onto St Peter’s in North Long Island, St Margaret’s in North Andros, Holy Cross in New Providence, St. Andrew’s in Exuma, and St Matthew’s, St John’s College and St Christopher’s in New Providence.
Father Scott, who was born in Nassau to the late Marjorie and Ross Scott, was educated at Government High School and the then C R Walker Technical College before joining the banking and insurance fields. Responding to a call from God, Father Scott entered Codrington College in Barbados to test his vocation and obtained a diploma in Pastoral Studies in June 1984. In December 2002, Father Scott obtained his Masters in Education from Kent State University in collaboration with the College of the Bahamas and served until 2010 as the chaplain and counsellor of St John’s College, Stapledon Gardens.
Canon Scott has served as adjunct lecturer and counsellor of the then Bahamas Hotel Training College and presently serves as an adjunct lecturer at the Bahamas Technical Vocational Institute (BTVI).
On December 1, 2013, Father Scott was made a Canon of Christ Church Cathedral by Bishop Laish Boyd for long and faithful service to the Church in this Diocese.
Known for his no nonsense attitude and his “down home” style of preaching, Canon Scott’s first love is education, and he has assisted and encouraged hundreds of young people to believe in themselves and become the best that they can be with the gifts that God has given them.
Canon Scott is the proud adopted father of Cleveland Saunders, his wife Andrea and their two daughters Cleandra and Ciara, as well as countless others from all over the Diocese who proudly call him “Father” for the role he has played in their lives.
