Of political parties, budgets and inadequate debate

EDITOR, The Tribune.

Although this gentleman, Prof Tinker, did not appear on any of The Tribune media he made a significant contribution to a morning radio show.

For the first time, an examination of the individual articles which govern the PLP - DNA and FNM parties was made public... to say the least very illuminating.

Prof Tinker did not specifically mention that in the Constitution political parties per se do not exist - we abuse the use and requirement of symbols for a party, I believe you will find every candidate is required to have a different one. At the end of the day, the constitution simply says: whosoever can garnish the support of the majority of elected MPs will be nominated as Prime Minister – I don’t think there is a single word about party.

May I comment on the resignation of Greg Moss – what this occurrence does do is that it seriously reflects on the leadership of the PLP, Rt Hon Perry Christie – as the Leader he should have seen it coming and should, if he was a serious leader, acted. The PM is solely interested in his 21 gussie-mae Cabinet – the overwhelming amount of Stalwart Councillors Mr Christie appointed since he took the leadership. Mr Christie chose him as one of the rising PLP stars so many of them now faIling stars.

Budget - have to laugh at cabinet ministers taking credit for the writing of the budget isn’t that what they get paid for? They are the co-authors!

Budget debate - if you can call it that. Surely the Finance Minister should be present for the budget, without all the political issues – then he presents the detail then the ministers respond as and how the budget affects their ministries...we certainly don’t need this mammoth, long winded irrelevant party political broadcasts.

The debate could be over in a maximum of four days period.

Party politics has destroyed true democracy in this country ............ the Rollins saga last night was a perfect example of the cancer affecting the present political establishment ............ we need 38 independent MPs who are willing to caucus for causes and elect a consensus builder to be the executive ............. plus an elected President to replace the Queen
