It came to an uphill sprint . . .

THE New Providence Cycling Association hosted its pre-Independence Cycling Series over the weekend.

The series started Saturday with an individual time trial on top of Lyford Cay Hill and finished there after covering 15 miles.

Chad ‘The Hammer’ Albury broke his previous record time of 36 minutes and 33 seconds as the native of Spanish Wells, Eleuthera, established a new time of 36:32s for the victory. Second was Anthony Colebrook in 36:55, third was Jay Major in 37:55s, fourth went to Deangelo ‘Superman’ Sturrup and fifth Justin Minns.

The juniors completed a four-mile course with Felix Neely winning over Mookie Rolle. The cadets under 11 years, covering two miles, was won by BJ Musgrove.

On Sunday, in a 32-mile race, it was pain from the start as Anthony Colebrook, Jay Major, Chris Curry, Deangelo Sturrp and Chad Albury rode out establishing fast pace speeds up to 25 to 30mph almost the entire way in a high speed of 37mph.

The peloton was broken up into three sets of groups and in the last few miles, as Chad Albury put the hammer down, only Anthony Colebrook and Jay Major were able to catch up with him.

It came to an uphill sprint as Anthony Colebrooke powered away from them in the sprint.

Anthony Colebrook went on to win in 1:15:32s. Second went to Jay Major and third was Chad Albury. They all received the same time by international road racing rules.

In fourth was Deangelo Sturrup in one hour and 19mins, 5th was Tracey ‘Showtime’ Sweeting in 1:21:00, 6th was Kelly Kramp in 1hr.24.25sec.

Mark Holowesko was 8th and Justin Minns was ninth in 1hr.30mins. 10th was Jackson Russell and 11th was Wayne Price.

The next event is scheduled for 5pm Sunday at Fort Charlotte. Persons are asked to bring their BMX and mountain bikes. For more information, contact the NP Cycling Association by texting 552-5128 or email.
