THE annual Royal Bahamas Police Force Youth Summer Camp, now in its 22nd year, will start next week under the theme of “Positively Our Youth Today for a Brighter Tomorrow”.
The RBPF Summer Camp, established in July 1993, covers New Providence and the Family Islands for six weeks. Its aims are to grow and develop character traits in the children that will contribute positively to the nation’s development, strengthen the relationship between youth and the police and encourage participation.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Stephen Dean said: “These are exciting times filled with opportunity and promise for the youth of our inner cities. However, crime, along with the many other social ills, threaten to abort the potential that we collectively posses as a people.
“We must not allow this to happen – no matter what the cost. The Royal Bahamas Police Force sees itself and the business community as the major players and catalyst in the attainment of our national goals by providing a safe and positive environment for the young people in our communities to live in.”
The summer camp will begin on June 29 and run until August 7. It will cater to over 4,000 children aged eight to 15. It will be held in nine locations in New Providence and additional camps will be held in Grand Bahama, Long Island, Abaco, Inagua, San Salvador and Cat Island.
The RBPF is looking for partners to make financial contributions to assist with the running of the camps. Information and further details can be obtained at 302-8430 or 376-9400.
