Connecting generations of artwork

By DONITRA DAVIS

A COLLABORATION between a well-known Bahamian painter and his ceramics sculpting daughter – Around and Back Again – has been on display at the Stan Burnside Gallery in eastern New Providence for the past week and ends tonight with a sale.

Stan Burnside and his 26-year-old daughter, Brooke, have each displayed 16 works in the exhibition, which was organised by Mr Burnside’s wife, Dennie.

The theme of the display reflects Brooke’s early ventures into art and her father’s experience over 50 years.

Brooke’s interest in art started at Harvard University in 2013, where she took part in an intense six-week summer programme, learning paper sculpting. She no longer uses paper but ceramics, producing different twists in her pieces.

The wood, canvas and acrylic paintings define Stan Burnside’s work, which he says reflect experiences, feelings, opinions and spiritual beliefs in bringing his pieces to life from the mid-1970s, since when he has sold more than 10,000 paintings.
