THE Bahamas Swimming Federation is gearing up to host its Royal Bank of Canada National Swim Championships at the Betty Kelly Kenning Swim Complex starting this evening.

Minister of Youth, Sports and Culture Dr Daniel Johnson will be on hand to bring remarks along with Patricia Ritchie, area vice president for Royal Bank in New Providence and BSF president Algernon Cargill.

The BSF/Royal Bank of Canada Nationals is scheduled to start at 6pm todayand continue 9am Friday, Friday at 6pm, Saturday at 9am, Saturday at 6pm and Sunday at 5pm.

BAAA NATIONALS

THE Bahamas Association of Athletic Associations is scheduled to hold its National Open Track and Field Championships at the Thomas A Robinson Track and Field Stadium this weekend. The meet will get started 6pm Friday and continue 2pm Saturday.

Athletes will get a chance to qualify for the Pan American Games, scheduled for Toronto, Canada, in July and IAAF World Championships in Beijing, China, in August.

NPSA EXHIBITION

WHETHER or not the lights will be repaired in time, the New Providence Softball Association is gearing up to host the Rising Stars Under-19 ladies’ softball team out of Grand Bahama to a three-game series in the Banker’s Field at the Baillou Hills Sporting Complex this weekend.

NPSA president Godfrey ‘Gully’ Burnside said that while they wait for the lights to be repaired after thieves stole the copper wiring out of the light poles in the outfield last week, they have decided to play just one game starting at 6pm each day.

However, they have adjusted the schedule to accommodate the Rising Stars by playing a double header on Friday. They will start at 5pm with the visitors taking on the College of the Bahamas Lady Caribs. That will be followed by the feature game at 6:30pm when the visitors face the Bommer G Lady Operators. The Rising Stars will close out the series on Saturday night when they take on the Johnson Lady Truckers at 6pm.
