BAHAMIAN Britenique ‘Brit or Big Baby’ Harrison is making a name for herself as a member of the Benedict College Tigers women’s basketball team.
The 6ft 4in senior, who graduated from St Augustine’s College and played on the Bahamas junior national team, received an honourable mention in the All SIAC Women’s Basketball team, along with teammate Kristinwe Lesane, who was also named to the team.
While Lesane averaged 9.8 points per game and 7.6 rebounds – both team highs for the Lady Tigers – and had six double-doubles, Harrison averaged 9.6 points and 6.1 rebounds and shot .547 from the floor.
Miles College senior guard Porshia Blue captured three individual awards to lead the 2015 All SIAC Women’s Basketball team and postseason honours as announced by the league.
Blue collected SIAC Player, Defensive and Newcomer of the Year awards with Chloe Roberts of Lane College voted Freshman of the Year.
Head coach Serena King-Coleman of Kentucky State University received Coach of the Year honour – as voted by the league’s head coaches.
Blue led the SIAC in scoring – averaging 19.7 points per game which included leading MC (7-18, 4-14) in scoring in 21 of 25 games on the season. Her prowess as a scorer led MC in the category in 14 straight games.
She eclipsed the 20-point plateau on 11 occasions scoring 30 or more in two games, including a season high 31 points against Kentucky State on February 2. Blue also leads the Lady Bears in rebounds (154/7.7avg) and field goals (161).
