THE National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) is participating in a Caribbean tsunami warning exercise today from 8.30 am to 5pm.
The Bahamas Department of Meteorology, the national tsunami warning focal point, will automatically receive the simulated information from the Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre, following which NEMA will alert the media and the public.
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), the organisers of the exercise says the aim of the exercise is to test communication systems and review tsunami response plans "from the institutional through the individual level”.
NEMA conducted its first tsunami exercise last March.
