A FORMER gang leader-turned community activist appeared in Magistrates Court on Friday in connection with an alleged altercation with police at his home earlier in the week.

Valentino ‘Scrooge’ Brown, of Lewis Street, appeared before Magistrate Saboula Swain facing four charges - of disorderly behaviour, obscene language, assaulting a police officer and resisting arrest.

Brown’s reply to each of the charges and particulars were “not guilty your worship.”

It is claimed that the Market Street community leader acted in disorderly fashion and cursed police when they appeared at his home on Monday. It is also claimed that Brown resisted and assaulted Police Constable 535 Rolle while the officer moved to arrest him.

As there was no objection by police prosecution, Maigstrate Swain granted Brown $3,000 bail with a suretor.

The magistrate informed Brown that he would reappear for trial on May 22. “I understand your worship, thank you” said Brown.

Brown is being represented by attorney Troy Kelman.
