POLICE expect to arraign the 54-year-old wife of Australian podiatrist, Phillip Vasyli, in Magistrates Court today in connection with his murder. Mr Vasyli, 59, was discovered dead in his Old Fort Bay home last Tuesday.
The victim’s body was found shortly after 8am. Police suspect he was dead for seven to eight hours before he was found. The victim reportedly had several stab wounds in his chest. He was found in the dining room of his home.
The news of Mr Vasyli’s death spread quickly around the world and has generated media attention in his home country.
Mr Vasyli owned four podiatry clinics around the world; three in Sydney, Australia and the other located in New Providence at the Old Fort Bay Medical Centre.
In 1991, he launched his brand of footwear, Vionic with Orthaheel Technology, pioneering one of the world’s largest custom orthotic manufacturing laboratories.

If the evidence is indeed sufficient for the charge against her, no special dispensation of any kind should be afforded this lady by virtue of the neighbourhood she lives in, the colour of her skin, her nationality or her family's wealth and stature in our society. Her treatment by the law enforcement authorities and legal system should be exactly the same as that which would be afforded to any black Bahamian woman charged with the same crime in similar circumstances. The law is the law and it must be both colour and citizenship blind as well as oblivious to wealth and stature of the accused in our society. The chips must fall where they should fall under our legal system in order to maintain its fairness in the eyes of all subject to the laws of the Commonwealth of The Bahamas! Let's hope our AG decides for once that no one is owed any special favours!!

I don't think the colour of her skin will be an issue seeing as the majority of people in the Bahamas charged with murder are out walking the streets anyway. So if she does get off easy it will be just like any other individual charged in this country. The issue is the judicial system of the Bahamas not the colour of her skin.
