THE sophomore season for Theodore “Trae” Sweeting has been a tremendous campaign thus far as he continues to put up the best numbers of his young career.
Sweeting, a catcher and outfielder for the Georgia State University Panthers, has been on a recent hot streak at the plate, including his first four-RBI game recently in a 7-4 win over Kennesaw State University.
Filling in for the injured Ryan Blanton, Sweeting was the leadoff hitter and his two-RBI single in the fourth inning put the Panthers in control for good en route to the win.
It was a part of a 7-13 performance at the plate for Sweeting over a four-game stretch.
Through 32 games, and in 18 starts, Sweeting is hitting .315 with an on-base percentage of .419 with five doubles, eight RBI and five stolen bases in five attempts.
The Panthers are scheduled to travel to Troy University where Sweeting will face off against fellow Bahamian Perez Knowles in conference matchup.
In his freshman season as a key bench player, Sweeting eventually earned more playing time as the season progressed.
He appeared in 32 games, including 12 starts, hit .333 with seven RBI and was the team’s top pinch runner who scored 17 runs and added four stolen bases.
He led the team with three triples, along with two doubles and one home run.
After a stellar career at Christ School in Arden, North Carolina, Sweeting has also made a seamless transition in the classroom at the collegiate level.
He was a member of the Athletic Director’s Honour Roll for the fall 2013 semester.
