A MAN in his mid 30s was stabbed to death during a heated argument with another man at a food stall on Potter’s Cay Dock yesterday.
While police have not officially released his identity, relatives at the scene said he was Vaughn-Handlin “Henny” Brown.
He worked at a popular stall and frequented the area during his off time.
The Tribune understands he was a resident in the Shirley Street area.
Police said last night that a 31-year-old man was in their custody in connection with the murder, which brings the country’s homicide toll to 55 for the year according to The Tribune’s records.
Police reported that shortly after 1.30pm, a man was involved in an argument with another man at the dock that resulted in him being stabbed in his body.
Brown, police said, was then rushed to hospital, where he later died of his injuries.
A police source said the murder was the result of a spat between two men who were heavily influenced by alcohol.
Several people who knew the victim from the area gathered. Some were seen wiping tears from their eyes as they looked on in disbelief.
A woman, who did not want to be named, identified herself as a family friend and said she was shocked to learn of Brown’s death. She told The Tribune he was a friendly, helpful individual.
“I watched him grow up,” she said, “you might as well say I helped raise that boy. I am so shocked right now to know he died out here like this. I can’t believe it. He was a people’s person working right out here. This is sad that he went this way.”
It was the second murder in two days to occur in the capital. On Sunday morning, a man was shot to death as he sat on the back of a truck as it was leaving a club at East Street and Gibbs Corner. Police said it happened at 1.30am, when a man armed with a handgun walked up and shot the victim in the chest before fleeing on foot.
The driver of the truck rushed the man to hospital where he died of his injuries. Police are appealing to the public to come forward with any information they might have.

How many tourists saw this happen? Mutha Fu@#!! We can't friggin' feed ourselves because the last +40 years of worthless governments have only worried about getting easy drug money and stealing as much as they can. And now, the ONLY industry that is keeping our country out of bankruptcy and poverty is witnessing only murders; one failed fu@#in' mega resort; and another mega resort that already went bankrupt and is BARELY being maintained. 40 years of easy money and now 40 years of suffering!!!

So let's summarize. A shooting in front of tourists (the Disney Dream was in port with many children). Visitors being robbed and in some cases murdered. Homicides at the rate of about 4 per week. Baha Mar very late, with scuttlebutt that much of the building cannot pass code and rumours that it may never be finished or ever used. An airport which is currently losing money at the rate of about $55,000 USD per day. A new vacation destination opening for Americans in a location where crime is dealt with severely: Cuba.
Conclusion: prosperity for all Bahamians!

Correction: out of habit I said "shooting". It was merely a "stabbing".

Potters Cay is a ghetto and one of the biggest polluters of our harbour. The amount of plastic and trash that the vendors throw or is blown into the harbour is disgraceful. Then we have the sunken boats that have been there fore years and have been leaking fuel into the water for just as long. Whatever ministry that is in charge of Potters Cay should just hang their heads in shame and publicly state that they are failures at managing Potters Cay. Come to think of it what if anything does ANY government ministry manage in a professional manner?

But our Prime Minister got lots of police protection in Rawson Square this morning!!

How about we let PCG live for one week in his constituency, dodging bullets, drawing water from the government tap, going to the bathroom in an out house, dealing with the filth, and shopping at the Chinese store, all the while trying to sleep with the constant racket of gunshots, traffic, and arguments. Then he can come and tell us how he has helped these people in his 41 years of being their M.P. What an excellent job he has done.

Sorry, my bad ................... well if he was on BayStreet he would only see the hotel he sold to the Chinese and closed stores that his lousy government has forced out of business............. VAT, crime and filth

So let me get this, 2 drunken fellas get in an argument, one kills the other, and the government is at fault and OUR prime minister should lessen his security and on and on and on.
Do you know how hateful you all sound.
Do any of you know what this place looked like 20 years ago. Do you know how many people made mad money under all governments and are broke today (as a result of their own stupidity). Do you realize that the government is the biggest employer and pays relatively well. People expect public health care. Cant you see how cloudy political waters are.
Use your anger and hate elsewhere. You fight a losing battle.
ScullyUFO 9 years, 5 months ago
Your observations are correct. The concerns are that the trend is towards the government not being able to pay their employees and there being no public healthcare because the tourism industry will die.
The stabbing is not an isolated incident but part of a pattern.

Hardcore, so you are saying that the country is done, to quote "you fight a losing battle". So what we should just get in the smuggling boats with the Haitians and Cubans now and try and get to the U.S.? This country was sold a bill of goods by the current government, they had ALL the answers for Crime and the economy, remember the billboards? Now three years in and crime is worse, the economy is worse and the clowns in power have no idea what in the hell to do except throw good money after bad. I will yell and scream and stamp my feet until the Government gets it's act in order. The blatant cronyisum, wasteful spending, corruption, no bid contracts, and on and on are NOT going to fly any longer. The way these kleptocrates have been operating HAS to stop! So no I will never give up, you get in the raft and head across the water, I will NOT!

get use to it: at least 55 more people will die in the Bahamas this year because of murder. Most of them will be Bahamian males between the age of 18 and 27 years. Most of them will die in a hail of bullets, while others, like this man will be stabbed to death, by someone known to him. Only around 60 percent of the persons killed will have someone charged with causing their death while less than 10 percent of persons charged will be convicted and receive a jail sentence. Most of the murders will occur in the areas of Bain and Grants Town, Nassau Village, pinewood and yes Potters Cay is becoming a hot spot for killing. No the persons who will be murdered have not yet been named or identified, but persons involved in crime, the sale of drugs or gang activity are at a greater risk. Any male that goes to a night club and gets into an argument over a female is at extremely high risk. And yes chances are that someone will be killed while playing dominoes or after being recently released from prison. And yes, the person least likely to get murdered in the Bahamas is a white female of any age. Any questions?

The white female may not get killed but they sure as hell are a target for rape!
