A MAN was shot and killed early yesterday morning on his way to work during an armed robbery off Soldier Road.
The murder occurred around 7am and took the country’s murder count to 60 for the year, according to The Tribune’s records.
Officer-in-charge of the Central Detective Unit (CDU) Chief Superintendent Paul Rolle said the victim was picking up co-workers when he was approached by two men armed with handguns, who demanded cash.
“Police were called to a scene off Emmanuel Way where we were told that gunshots were discharged. When we arrived on the scene we learned that a gentleman pulled up in his white truck with some workers to collect some other workers,” Chief Supt Rolle said.
“A silver Honda pulled up behind them and two men exited with handguns and demanded cash and jewellery. The suspects relieved him of his cash and jewellery and shot him several times before leaving the area in the Honda. The victim died on the scene.”
The victim has been identified by police as 41-year old Trevor Smith of Catnip Close, Fox Hill.
The murder comes 24 hours after the partially decomposed body of a woman in her early 20s was found in a lake off Coral Harbour.
That victim has been identified as 24-year-old Samantha Johnson of Sapodilla Boulevard.
Police said the victim was discovered in a body of water on a dirt road, about a mile off the Airport Road, by a man hunting birds.
Police said the woman was found around 10.30am, submerged in shallow waters.
Up to press time, police had no suspects in custody for either incident.
Anyone with information on any of these homicides is asked to contact police at 911 or 919, the Central Detective Unit at 502-9991 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 328-TIPS.

So now they are robbing you and when they have your things, shooting you dead. Sounds like a place I want to live, or visit, NOT. This country is finished, there is no work, no hope, no future in this hell hole. Corruption, crime, lies, and deceit are the order of the day, what a great place to raise a family. How proud our leaders must be with Bahamians trying to get as much of their money out of the country as they can so when it finally does implode they have something to fall back on. You know the politicians already have their stash abroad, right Mr. Pm, you got a fat account in Atlanta, right?

Real talk

When a person is targeted like this and shot a number of times it is more than a robbery (even though they stole his possessions). Especially when. from all accounts, he did not put up a resistance and no one else is injured. Who is killing Bahamian men and why?

Comrades time wake-up as a population that talks more about who the PM or leader of the official opposition party will be - only talking crime - when when the media has yet another shocking and senseless murder or home invasion to report on. It seems we and our elected leaders are overly occupied with the upcoming 2017 General Elections and which party will form the new government. Talking elections and not the importance of crime solutions is to trivialize that if we as a united people's do not deal with serious crime, come 2017 election day - we might not have much of a Bahamaland to want to worry about who in the hell we will vote for, or against.. Every citizen and resident are players in the crime game, whether you want to be or not. Comrades here goes the really scary part - cuz there are odds that favour one or more of you, or a family member, dear friend or co-worker reading my Tribune blog - falling victim to being murdered, before the bell is even rung for General Elections 2017? And, you thought elections should top your agenda of concerns?

So true. But my take is, the biggest criminals are sitting in the HOA speaking with the most clipped and polished pseudo British accents. Who in their right mind appoints Shane Gibson, Paul Major and Ishmael Lightbourne to look after large sums of money? What could possibly be the thinking behind that? Crime is indeed getting very very scary because people think it's EASY to become rich and get material things, here are your prime examples

I do not care which party wins the election as long as that party is serious about being straight with the Bahamian people. Corruption has as much to do with our crime problem as the lack of education and the lack of jobs. There is also the breakdown of the family unit that has a major role in this. A young man without a father is at a distinct disadvantage. We all know our leaders are corrupt, sweetheart, and have the ethics and morals of a tick, you think the youth do not eat that up and think that it is the way to conduct ones self when they see and hear about this MP or that pastor/bishop/doctor/person in a supposed leadership role doing such things? Our leaders have failed the nation and we as a nation are paying the price. This goes back a long way and leaders that are in the grave that certain sectors refuse to acknowledge were dirty have caused what we are dealing with today. Dirty is dirty no matter how high the person is held. Maybe it is time those in leadership roles became honest with themselves as well as the nation. This will never happen as we all know those in leadership are much to shallow to be honest with themselves much less the nation.

Completely agree. Too many people are gaining riches in this country through illegal shortcuts. Why shouldn't the young man with a gun think he's entitled to do the same?

I think we have a failed leadership, not a political party problem. Both parties must change or be erased off the political map - and this time for good.
My Dear Comrade AsISeeIt, let The Tribune poll its readers and overwhelmingly it will show that a majority of Bahamalander's – for the first time in the country's long history - believe there's and their loved-ones safety and security will be less safe after 2017, regardless of electing either of the two "present or past leadership mentality" PLP or FNM governments. Truth is, neither party's leadership scores high marks with voters.
I consider the DNA to be as FNM as the FNM, so don't even mention them, if outside that equation.
And, tell Papa Hubert to please stay retired, okay?

Another one killed last night and still a few days before the half year mark. Country is well on its way to recording at least 120 murders in 2015. Seems like everyone come to accept that as a fact and little else is being done to prevent it. Half a year gone and we still have more murderers on the streets (accused or unidentified) than we have in prison. It is a sad state of affairs when the first thing the average citizen does when he wakes up is check to see, "who get kill last night." Unfortunately they will wake up at least sixty more times this year to find that indeed, someone has been killed!

Someone is being murdered in the Bahamas every three days on average.

Have I really heard that our PM's wife lives most of the time in Atlanta? Just flying in for special occasions? Incredible that she would feel safer in Atlanta.
asiseeit 9 years, 6 months ago
it is said his wife and daughter live in a very exclusive part of Atlanta. Why would they want to live in this hell hole.

Wonder what Birdie thinks about that??
ThisIsOurs 9 years, 6 months ago
Let me spare you the suspense, Birdie thinks its great. It is really sad how these black leaders brainwash their followers to think their state in the muck and mire is exactly where they should be, that they should be proud of the ungodly amount of wealth the leader accumulates while they use outdoor toilets. I would be surprised if any world leader respects Mr Christie, pretty much certain of their opinion of Mr Davis.
