LEGACY is defined by Webster’s Dictionary as something transmitted by or received from an ancestor or predecessor or from the past. This is the case in the life of Aldo Stubbs.
Aldo was born on July 30, 1975, in Nassau to Blanche Stubbs, a retired nurse, and one of the Bahamas’ music legends, the late Leon Stubbs, Sr.
Leon Stubbs was a well-known singer and songwriter, and the former leader of one of the oldest gospel groups in the Bahamas, the Honourable Region Bells.
Today, the group still performs their rhythmic melodies and smooth harmonies in a rhyming accapella style.
From his father, Aldo inherited the gift of songwriting and love of music.
This Sunday, Aldo Stubbs and Friends will display this love of music and the Lord with a special concert at the Remnant Tabernacle of Praise on Carmichael Road, starting at 7pm.
The line-up for the night will include: A’leithia Sweeting, the New Dynamic Features, the Honourable Region Bells, the Remnant Academy School Choir, the Remnant Tabernacle
of Praise Sanctuary Choir, TRTOP Voices Of Praise, TRTOP Praise Dancers, COGOP Minnie Street Dance Team, Virtue of Praise Dance Team, and EPIC Sweet Fragrance Praise.
Aldo Stubbs and Friends are made up of Terry Walters, Tamara Reckely, Sharon Chase, Davaro Chase, Davian Chase, Rashad Cunningham, Adrianna Munnings, Patrick Humes, Jermaine Johnson, Carl Miller and Orval Stubbs.
“God has blessed me with a group of amazing and anointed singers and musicians, and I am so happy to have networked with them. We are family. This vision is not just here locally, but for us to go forward and out into the world led by the spirit of God and with the spirit of excellence,” Aldo said.
“(This Sunday) at 6.45pm we will charge the atmosphere with prayers and music, allowing God to have his perfect will, for we know whatever He does is well done. So I say to the Bahamian people, please mark your calendar to have an encounter; experience a change of heart. Come and see, hear and feel His presence, His glory, healing, deliverance, salvation and wholeness. We believe that God will exceed all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us.”
Aldo said he was inspired by the Holy Spirit to write songs after his father’s death on May 30, 2009. He said he was He remembers saying, “Lord, I can’t sing!”, but he found himself still writing the vision and running with it. To this day, he is still passionate about it.
Aldo is very versatile in his writing; it ranges from gospel and praise and worship to wedding inspired and positively influenced lyrics.
He currently has songs playing on several of the local radio stations thanks to the help of a local producer and good friend, Anthony ‘MegaTon’ Thompson.
Aldo also has a music video that is played regularly on the Cable 12 called “Family Structure” featuring local talent and friend Peter Torch.
Songs such as “Let God Be The Judge” featuring his nephew Shalon; “I’ve Finally Found Someone” and “What Went Wrong” featuring his sister Terry Walters and cousin Santushi Ferguson; “Thank You Lord”, and “Help Me” featuring his cousin Rashad Cunningham have already graced the local airwaves and can be viewed on YouTube and Facebook.
Last June, Aldo held his first concert, “The Legacy Continues”, as a tribute to his father at the Church of God of Prophecy Englerston where he debuted a set of worship songs he had written and produced along with the assistance of Orval Stubbs, his cousin.
While the concert, which featured a number of other Bahamian artists, was deemed a success by Aldo and Friends, the upcoming experience is expected to be “awesome”.
“This time around, Aldo Stubbs and Friends will be doing it bigger and better by the grace of God Almighty. Once again, we will be giving God all the honour and glory,” the songwriter said.
Aldo attends the Church of God of Prophecy on Minnie Street and is employed at the Atlantis Resort in the maintenance department. He is the father of one son, Adrian Stubbs.
