THE PLAYOFFS: The Colin “Troppy” Knowles championship series in the New Providence Softball Association got underway last night in the Banker’s Field at the Baillou Hills Sporting Complex.
In game one of the ladies’ series, the Johnson’s Lady Truckers defeated the Lady Stingers to take an early lead.
In the men’s series, the BTC Elite Warriors faced the Commando Security Truckers. However, the results were not available up to press time.
Both series continue with game two tonight and the third games in both series are set for Thursday.
If necessary, games four and five will be played on Saturday and Monday. With the recent issues with weather and keeping a dry field, the series have been transitioned to best-of-five formats rather than the traditional best-of-seven in the interest of crowning a champion before the Bahamas Softball Federation National Round Robin.
The Lady Stingers advanced to the championship after they defeated the pennant-winning defending champions Sunshine Auto Lady Wildcats and Bommer G Operators.
Among the men, the pennant-winning Elite Warriors survived a controversial ending to defeat the Chances Mighty Mitts while the Truckers unseated the two-time defending Ira Dez Hitmen.
