GRAND Bahama police are investigating an apparent suicide after a 69-year-old Freeport man was found hanged at his residence on Tuesday evening.
The discovery was made by concerned neighbours around 7pm on Tuesday who contacted police. When officers arrived at the residence at East Indianman Road off Man-O-War Circle, they discovered the victim dead with a rope around his neck.
“There was no sign of life,” said Inspector Terecita Pinder. “At this point we do not know the cause of the death. We are investigating.”
While police have not released the victim’s identity, the deceased is believed to be a taxicab driver. A number of cab drivers had gathered at the residence and David Jones, president of the Grand Bahama Taxi Union, said he and taxi drivers were saddened to learn news of their colleague’s death.
According to Mr Jones, they had attempted to reach the victim on Sunday.
“We went to his residence to reach him on Sunday but the home was in darkness,” he said. “He was the (type of person) that took time out for himself so we figured he was doing that. So, to find him now under these circumstances is really heart-wrenching.”
