One dead, four in hospital after weekend shootings

POLICE in New Providence are investigating a series of shootings over the weekend which has left one man dead and four others, including an off-duty police officer, in hospital.

The fatal shooting occurred shortly after 2.30pm on Saturday, when a man standing with a group of males in front of a shop opposite his residence on Jumbey Street, Pinewood, was shot several times by several men with firearms who pulled up in a Nissan Primera and then sped off. The victim was pronounced dead on the scene.

Shortly before 3pm on Saturday, a man and a woman were standing on the porch of an unfinished building on Reeves Street, Fox Hill, when the occupants of a silver right hand drive Honda armed with a firearm drove up and shot the man in his hip and the woman in her arm before speeding off. The two victims were transported to hospital where they remain in stable condition.

Around 12.30am on Sunday, a man was involved in an altercation with another man outside a nightclub on Wulff Road which resulted in him receiving a gunshot wound. The man was rushed to hospital, where he remains in stable condition.

A 33-year-old man is in custody assisting police with their investigations into this incident.

Around 3.30am on Sunday, an off-duty female police officer was leaving a nightclub on Tonique Darling Highway when she was shot in the arm. The officer was transported to hospital, where she remains in stable condition.
