Another tropical depression forms in the Atlantic

WEATHER forecasters say a new tropical depression has formed over the eastern Atlantic Ocean and is expected to strengthen through the weekend.

The US National Hurricane Centre announced on Friday morning that the depression was about 870 miles west-southwest of the Cape Verde Islands, with sustained winds of up to 30mph. It was moving west-northwest at 9mph and posed no threat to land. It is the 10th tropical depression of the season in the Atlantic.

Meanwhile, another tropical depression is weakening, with maximum sustained winds early on Friday near 30mph. It’s expected to become a remnant low by Friday night. That depression is centred 1,045 miles east of the Lesser Antilles and is moving north-northwest near 7mph.
