A JUSTICE of the Peace and community leader in Kemp Road received the keys to her newly renovated home on Wednesday, compliments of the Urban Renewal Small Homes Repair Programme.
At the handing over ceremony, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Works and Urban Development Philip Davis described the recipient, Laura Taylor, as kind-hearted.
He compared her to India’s Mother Teresa and Britain’s Florence Nightingale, who were both known for their acts of charity.
“Today, we have come to Sutton Street to celebrate a lady who has given so much to this community from her home, humble as it was,” he said.
“Notwithstanding the challenge of accommodations, Mrs Laura Taylor had no challenge in respect of her reach. Her kind heart and love of cooking causes breakfast to be served every day for the children of this community.
“Her magnanimous nature provokes her to reach out to senior citizens, who she physically bathes and feeds. Today, we have come to celebrate a true community builder, activist, philanthropist, and counsellor.”
Mr Davis said that Mrs Taylor also counsels young women who need support and invests in an after-school programme because she knows the importance of education.
She also counsels young women who need support to get back on track.
“Today, we have come to celebrate a true community builder, activist, philanthropist, and counsellor,” Mr Davis said.
“As we hand over the keys to an improved way of living, I am certain that all present will agree that this work can be none other than divine.”
