SOFTBALL UPDATE

AFTER the first week of competition, three teams remain undefeated in both the junior boys and senior girls and four in the senior boys divisions of the Bahamas Association of Independent Secondary Schools’ softball league. There were no scores posted in the junior girls’ division as they are expected to start their competition today.

In the junior boys’ division, the St Andrew’s Hurricanes and St Anne’s Bluewaves are both riding high with identical 20 win-loss records. St Andrew’s Hurricanes are the only other undefeated team at 1-0.

The senior girls’ division also has a two-way tie at the top with St Augustine’s College Big Red Machine and St Anne’s Bluewaves both tied at 2-0. Aquinas College Aces is next at 1-0.

And in the senior boys’ division, St Augustine’s College Big Red Machine and the Kingsway Academy Saints are both marching on top of the standings at 2-0. Charles W Saunders Cougars and Jordan Prince Williams Falcons are next at 1-0.

The league is scheduled to continue this week with senior boys and junior girls in action on Monday and Wednesday, while the junior boys and girls will compete on Tuesday and Thursday.

RUN

CIBC CURE FUN

RUN/WALK

THE 4th Annual CIBC FirstCaribbean Walk for the Cure Fun Run/Walk is slated to be held 7am October 4 at Goodman’s Bay Corporate Center in Nassau.

Route: Participants will leave from the Goodman’s Bay Corporate Centre, head to Sandals and back.

The Survivor’s (short) route will be from the Goodman’s Bay Corporate Centre to Melia Resort and back.

For the first time ever, walks will also be held in Abaco, Eleuthera, and Freeport on October 3.

Interested persons can contact their local CIBC FirstCaribbean branches for additional information. Registration is open to the public and is $20 for adults and $12 for children, which includes t-shirt, water and breakfast.

BSC TRACK

MEET

BECAUSE of the public holiday weekend, the Baptist Sports Council has announced that it will move its 2015 track and field competition from Saturday, October 10 to Saturday, November 14 at the Thomas A Robinson Track and Field Stadium.

At that time, the BSC will attempt to introduce its battle of the band, step and banner competitions between the various associations within the Baptist organisation.

BSC CLASSIC

THE Baptist Sports Council has announced that its 2015 softball classic will begin at the Banker’s Field in the Baillou Hills Sporting Complex on Saturday, November 7.

The league will feature competition in the under 15, under-19, co-ed and men’s division. The registration fee is $200 per team per division.

VOLLEYBALL

BSC CLASSIC

THE Baptist Sports Council has announced that its 2015 volleyball classic will be held at the DW Davis Gymnasium on Saturday, October 31.

The league will comprise of the ladies and men’s divisions or a co-ed will replace the ladies if there isn’t sufficient teams.

CYCLING

NPCA SERIES

THE New Providence Cycling Association is scheduled to hold its monthly cycling series on September 27 with the Goodman’s Bay Cycling Clash that will feature a 42-mile race for elite cyclists and 24 miles for the junior cyclists around the western end of the island. The event is opened to men and women, open masters men and women, 35-years and over and junior boys and girls.

WALK:

STRIDE 4 LIFE

THE Walk 4 Cancer Stride 4 Life 2015 is scheduled for 6am October 3, starting from the Cancer Society Building on East Terrace, Centreville. The theme for the event is “Walk A Mile In My Shoe.”

Registration is being held at the Cancer Society of the Bahamas on East Avenue, two doors south of ZNS. Adults will be charged $20 and children under 12 $10, which includes a t-shirt, backpack and other goodies.

Monetary donations are accepted. Breakfast will be on sale.
