THE grand opening of the Cosmosis Yoga Suite & Cultural Hub this weekend will give people a chance to learn about yoga, vegan living, complimentary medicine, and mindfulness-based living in a safe and supportive atmosphere.
The launch of the studio by yoga instructor Mychal Bryan aims to create a greater appreciation for the physical and spiritual practice of yoga in the Bahamas.
Cosmosis is designed to be an “eclectic experience of yoga, art and culture, providing a full schedule of yoga classes weekly that celebrate the Bahamas’ diverse backgrounds, goals and body needs.”
The grand opening will kick off this Friday with a signature Oshun Hip Flowology (OH-Flow) class accompanied by live drumming from the Ubuntu Drummers. Thereafter classes will be taken outdoors on Saturday at Rawson Square.
A yoga party will then be taken back to the main studio; it will conclude with a massage clinic. A team of trained massage therapists will cater to all aches and pains and general relaxation needs for $1 per minute.
“I’ve found that a lot of people here in the Bahamas still have a lot of misconceptions regarding yoga, so it’s our mission to give Bahamians yoga as a physical means of staying healthy, fit and in shape,” Mr Bryan said.
“Yoga is a great way for people to learn how to use their body to optimise their performance in all aspects of their lives and their work. At Cosmosis, we give people yoga that teaches them about their body and giving them the opportunity to live life pain-free and with stability and ease.”
The impact of yoga on the physical body is far-reaching, he said. In fact, Mr Bryan said many people who practice yoga wake up pain-free.
“Others say that through practicing yoga at Cosmosis they are able to wake up in the morning pain-free and with greater functional mobility in their body. We’ve had athletes who’ve said that through training with us they have been able to perform better in their chosen sport. The yoga and mindfulness-based approaches that we practice at Cosmosis can literally give you a better, healthier and more liberating life. People should come to Cosmosis if they feel ready to tap into that,” he said.
“Since we’ve opened our doors in July, we have always had students coming in and every day it’s someone new. People are spreading the word faster than we can advertise and it’s amazing to see what our public reaction has been. People love practicing yoga here.
“They feel stronger, supported, and like they are making bold, big strides toward a better life every time they come on the yoga mat. One of the biggest things for them is that they all step away feeling as if they’ve learned something. I love to teach and share what I’ve been taught and people are really attracted to that.”
