A man was shot by police after stabbing and injuring two officers this afternoon as they attempted to foil an armed robbery at a house on East Street north.

A female who lived at the house was also injured in the incident and is now in hospital.

Chief Superintendent Clayton Fernander, officer-in-charge of the Central Detective Unit, said around 12.15pm on Friday, officers responded to an armed robbery in progress on East Street. Upon arrival, officers entered the house where they were attacked by a young man wielding a knife.

After sustaining some injuries, the officers shot the suspect.

The man is now in hospital under heavy police guard. The two officers are also seeking medical attention.

Speaking with reporters at the scene, Chief Supt heralded the "quick response" by officers to the crime scene, and encouraged members of the public to continue to foster a "partnership" with police to allow them to capture "these few individuals who continue to wreak havoc in our communities”.

He also cautioned would-be criminals and suspects to avoid engaging the police, particularly while engaging in criminal activities.

"They'd better be in fear because we are trained and we will continue to go at them," he said. "We are trained. If they attack the officers they have to protect themselves and also members of the public. They have to ensure that they are safe, that no injuries come to members of the public and themselves. So we are trained. Either (the suspects) get shot, or they will die."

Well done Police . May you both, and the woman who lived in the house, have a speedy recovery.

Despite these unfortunate incidents crime appears to be well on the decline. In fact one would go as far to say that the country may record less than 100 murders this year. Police must continue their swift and decisive response to crime, the courts must continue to give heavy sentences to serious crimes, including armed robbery, rapes and murder. And parents and every law abiding citizen must do their part to ensure that the youth, young men especially, continue on the path to positive activities and to becoming productive and law abiding citizens. Quash that gang activity for good and the violent, gun toting nature that is is imported behavior and is not the nature of true born Bahamians. Then maybe by next month there could come a serious suggestion for the police force. Maybe more than one suggestion.

................................... RBPF In Unprecedented Response Time ..................................

The immediate response and resolution to this incident by police is absolutely amazing!

I certainly have never heard of, or ever could have imagined RBPF reaching such a high level of proficiency as reported in this story.

Other reports of increased crawfish numbers attributed to RBDF effective patrolling the banks is also very good news to worn out, disheartened Bahamians.

Either it is close to an election, or someone has finally been let loose to make some much needed drastic changes in law enforcement. Now if we can light a fire under department of immigration and deal with corruption, we'll be hitting on all cylinders!

Tribune bloggers are always ready to complain at the drop of a hat about every incident, however, very few are unbiased enough to publish compliments when things go right!

Good job RBPF & RBDF, keep it up, we are 100% with you!

We must not forget the hundreds of prayer warriors who pray daily for the safety and prosperity of this nation and the safety of the youth and for God to deliver them out of the hands of evil and wickedness. And not forget the Commissioner of Police, Ellison Greenslade, who fires and dismisses officers who engage in bad behavior or who commit crimes. His immediate action has sent a clear message to officers that there is no tolerance for law breakers. Now maybe its time to start praying for Bah Mar, even though most Bahamians have become indifferent as to whether it opens or not.

Unless the LORD builds the house, the builders labor in vain. Unless the LORD watches over the city, the guards stand watch in vain

. " March on Bahamaland!
