HIDEKI Matsuyama, of Japan, won his third successive golf tournament on Sunday, holding off Henrik Stenson over the final few holes to win the Hero World Challenge at Albany in south western New Providence.

Matsuyama, who started the final round with a seven-shot lead, never let anyone closer than six shots heading to the back nine. The final nine holes were a struggle, however. He closed with a one-over par round of 73 to win by two strokes at 18-under-par.

A double bogey on the tenth and a three-putt bogey on the easy 14th allowed Stenson, the British Open champion, to get within three shots with four to play. The Swede three-putted the 15th for par and could not apply any more pressure. He closed with a 68.

Three Americans - Ricky Fowler, Dustin Johnson and Matt Kuchar - finished tied for third at 13 under par with last year's winner Bubba Watson two shots further back.

Tiger Woods, in his first tournament in more than 15 months, shot 76 and finished 15th.
