NPWBA: Wins for Athletico Bahamas, Cheetahs and Operators

THE New Providence Women’s Basketball Association kicked off its junior division as they continued their regular season action at the DW Davis Gymnasium on Saturday.

In the two games played in the junior division, Athletico Bahamas nipped the Water and Sewerage Operators 30-29 and the Family Guardian Cheetahs knocked off the Miya Cybot Princesses 28-20.

And in the lone game played in the senior division, the Bommer G Lady Operators deflated the defending champions Johnson’s Lady Truckers 68-59.

Athletico Bahamas 30,

Operators 29

With one minute and 38 seconds left on the clock, Kaylisa Gilcud canned a pair of free throws to push Athletico to a 30-26 lead and they held off a late surge by Water and Sewerage for the win. It was the only two points scored by Gilcud as she came off the bench.

Shaniqua Thompson led Athetico with seven points and five rebounds, Terrell Cox had six points, Alkeia Rolle had five points, four rebounds and three assists and both Vandia Williams and Davia Christopher had four points apiece.

In a losing effort, Chyna Curry had a game high eight points with three rebounds and three assists. Kristinique Moss had six points and seven rebounds, Breyante Dean had five points and seven rebounds and Ebony Gerenus added four points.

Cheetahs 28,

Princesses 20

Chelly Australe scored nine points with three rebounds to lead Family Guardian. Dashaunette Wallace had six points and six rebounds, Tanae Bowleg had five points and both Denique Mackey and Jamalah Deveaux had four points and four rebounds.

Angelique Bethel matched the game high honours with eight points for Miya Cybot. Five other players were tied with two points, including Marquella Dean who had seven rebounds.

Lady Operators 68,

Lady Truckers 59

Philicia Kelly, playing 37 minutes and 16 seconds, scored a game high 22 points with six rebounds and five assists to lead Bommer G to another victory as they remained undefeated atop of the league standings with a perfect 11-0 win-loss record.

Britinique Harrison came off the bench and contributed 13 points and nine rebounds, Diasti Delancy had 10 points, nine assists five rebounds and three steals and Ruthann Simms had 10 points, 11 rebounds and four steals.

For the Lady Truckers, who dropped to 8-3 for second place, Janice Williams had 14 points and 15 rebounds in 30 minutes. Latoya Rolle had 11 points, 19 rebounds and four steals and Suzette McKenzie had 11 points and three rebounds.

The league is scheduled to return to its regular season schedule on Tuesday when the Englerston Elites take on the Career Builders Lady Cheetahs in the lone game, starting at 7:30pm.
