THE National Tennis Centre (NTC) has partnered with the Oak Park Tennis Center in Chicago, Illinois, and will hold a special one-day clinic for children associated with the Urban Renewal Programme this Saturday, February 13th at the NTC.
Rich Schuler, a second-home owner in The Bahamas, and a Chicago native, who is a member of the Nassau Lawn Tennis Club, wanted to give back to his adopted home here in The Bahamas, and went back to his home tennis club and spoke about the need to get more Bahamian children involved in the game of tennis.
As a result, he inspired Pierce Butler, a student at Roosevelt Middle School in River Forest, Illinois, to assist. Pierce founded “Tennis Worldwide” and made the appeal to donate tennis equipment.
47 tennis racquets are being donated, along with 12 pairs of tennis shoes, 12 caps, five tennis bags and racquet covers and ten t-shirts and tennis shorts.
Two tennis professionals from the Oak Park Tennis Center will work with local coaches, Sandy Reid and Steve Taylor, during the Tennis Clinic on Saturday from 10am to 1pm.
While children from the Urban Renewal Programme have been invited, we will welcome any children from the inner city, who want to try their skills at tennis.
