A 35-year-old man became the country’s latest murder victim when he was stabbed multiple times during an argument with another man Saturday night.
The killing took place shortly after 8pm in Nassau Village. It took the country’s murder count to 16 for the year, according to The Tribune’s records.
Police said they received reports that a male was stabbed while in the area of Sumner Street. When officers arrived, they found the lifeless body of a man with multiple stab wounds in his body. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Stephen Dean said police believe the victim was involved in an argument on a nearby street with another man that resulted in his stabbing.
Police have not officially identified the victim, but The Tribune understands he is Cyril Tomeko Cartwright aka “Short Man”.
Meanwhile, police are searching for suspects in a stabbing incident that left another man in hospital. According to police, shortly before 2am on Saturday, a man and two friends were involved in an argument at a club located on Madeira Street, that led to him being stabbed with a screw driver.
The victim is in serious condition in hospital.
Saturday’s homicide took place two days after police discovered the body of a man, who was being electronically monitored, with bruises on his neck in a house off Shirley Street.
Superintendent B K Bonamy Jr, head of homicide investigations at the Central Detective Unit, said officers received a tip last Thursday that led them to an abandoned home on Shirley Park Lane off Shirley Street.
According to Supt Bonamy, officers discovered the victim’s body face down in an eastern room of the house. He said the man was wearing blue jeans and an ankle bracelet.
“At this time we are unsure of the cause of death,” he told The Tribune at the scene. “We intend to perform an autopsy to determine just that but at this time we are unsure of the circumstances surrounding this death. Officers first on the scene made the discovery, contacted EMS personnel and those EMS personnel ruled that this adult male had been dead for more than a day.”
Police declined to identify the victim or clarify if the ankle monitor led officers to the discovery.
No one has been arrested for either homicide.
Anyone with information on any of these incidents is asked to contact police at 911 or 919, the Central Detective Unit at 502-9991 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 328-TIPS.
