QC Comets celebrate victory in special ceremony

A special ceremony was held yesterday on the campus of the Queen’s College Comets as they celebrated their repeat victory as the Bahamas Association of Independent Secondary Schools (BAISS) track and field champions.

It was the first time that the school population assembled since the team’s victory at the Thomas A Robinson Track and Field Stadium earlier this month. The school was returning from its mid-term break.

The Comets dominated the meet from start to finish as they accumulated a total of 1,477 points. They outraced their nearest competitors, the St Augustine’s College Big Red Machine, by 112 points.

SAC totalled 1,365 points for second place. St John’s College Giants finished third with 411.50 points, followed by St Anne’s Blue Waves with 361.50 points and NCA Crusaders in fifth with 265 points.

The Comets claimed five of the eight contested categories, including the bantam, junior and senior boys, along with the intermediate and senior girls.

The Big Red Machine took the bantam and junior girls and the intermediate boys.

Last year, the Comets tallied 1,408.59 points to defeat the Big Red Machine by a margin of 150.50 points.

The Comets, who also won the Bahamas Association of Athletic Associations’ National High School Relays in January, are now looking forward to competing in the BAAA National High School Track and Field Championships, which is tentatively set for Grand Bahama next month.

The BAAA is expected to hold a press conference today to confirm the date and venue.
