THREE Chinese nationals and a Haitian national were apprehended by immigration officials at an apartment in the Freeport area on Wednesday.

Immigration officers had gone to an apartment at Lawerence Close, where the men were allegedly making preparatory steps to be smuggled into the US.

According to Immigration public relations officer Napthali Cooper, the Chinese men arrived legally in The Bahamas from Cuba. Two of them were admitted for seven days and one was admitted for 30 days during October 2015.

He said none of the men had sought to extend their visitor’s visas as required by the law. The Haitian national told officers that he arrived illegally by boat in Abaco in 2015, and travelled to Freeport a few weeks ago.

The men were processed at Immigration headquarters and flown to New Providence on Thursday to the Detention Centre to await repatration.
