Atlantis’s top executive yesterday said the resort had seen “robust” growth in business over the Christmas/New Year holiday period, telling Tribune Business that it was now eyeing a “very good first quarter”.

Paul Burke, Brookfield Hospitality’s president and managing director, told Tribune Business yesterday that Atlantis had enjoyed strong business over the holidays.

“The Christmas period was very good. I would say that we had a great holiday; it certainly was robust,” he added.

Mr Burke said the resort saw an uptick in group business in December, with the Popeyes Bahamas Bowl helping to drive some of that business.

“From the beginning of December we had some groups in which is kind of similar to last year. From December 20 to the end of the year we ha robust growth year-over-year,” said Mr Burke.

He told Tribune Business that the resort was anticipating a “very good” 2016 first quarter, with the fourth installment of the Pure Silk-Bahamas Ladies Professional Golf (LPGA) Classic expected to generate a significant boost in room nights.

The tournament, which features the biggest names in women’s golf, is scheduled for January 25 to February 1 at the Ocean Club Golf Course.

“The pick-up is good. We have poker stars in; we have good groups on the books books for the first quarter of the year. Easter is in March this year so we are going to have a pretty good first quarter,” said Mr Burke.
