A MAN is in serious condition in hospital after he was shot by police late Sunday night.

According to reports, shortly after 11pm officers from the Mobile Division were on patrol on Palm Tree Avenue when they saw a suspicious man walking in the area.

The officers approached the man who ran to a nearby building, where he began firing at the officers with a handgun. The officers returned fire, shooting the man.

A 9mm pistol with ammunition was recovered from the suspect, police said.

He was taken to hospital by ambulance where he remains in serious condition under heavy police guard.

This is the third police involved shooting in two days.

An “act of bravery” by a police officer who “jumped into action and foiled an armed robbery” resulted in two armed men being shot and taken into custody early Sunday, police said.

Police also shot another suspected armed robber after a car chase in the Nassau Village area on Saturday night.

Investigations continue.
